Ayam Cemani is an Indonesian chicken which is totally a different bird of black color. Its feathers, skin, muscles and even the bones and all the organs are in black color. It’s the most fascinating bird in the world. This chicken is so stunning, impressive and unusual that it is denoted as the “Lamborghini of poultry”.
The meaning of Ayam is “chicken” and Cemani is “total black” so Ayam cemani means “totally black chicken”. This chicken is very rare and it has a special position in the Javanese culture. Emerging from Central Java, they are believed to be good luck charms and are used in making conventional medicines for curing various diseases over the island. It is also believed that they have magical powers. Ninety percent of consumers demand Ayan Cemanis for their black blood as it is used in their many rituals.
The regular body temperature of this bird is very high which is about 101 degrees and their heart beat is about 250 to 280 times per minute.
The meat of this bird is also black and is very rich in iron.
Ayam Cemani lays cream –colored eggs, it’s the only thing which is not black, the females takes 24 to 26 hours to lay an egg and they lay huge number of eggs. In their first year they lay 60 to 100 eggs then lasting for about 20 to 30 eggs and after that it stops laying eggs for 3 to 6 months.
These birds are very friendly and they are very easy to handle.
